One of the highlights was an exclusive interview with Prof. Derek O'Reilly , a renowned surgeon and Editorial Board member of AIS, who shared his expertise and visionary outlook on integrating AI into surgical procedures.

Biography of Prof. Derek O'Reilly

Prof. Derek O'Reilly is a distinguished general surgeon with over 30 years of clinical experience, specializing in hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery. He received his medical degree from Trinity College Dublin in 1992 and later earned a Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine from the University of Plymouth, United Kingdom. Prof. O'Reilly completed his residency in General Surgery in the United Kingdom, rotating through various departments to develop expertise in diagnosing and treating conditions such as liver, pancreatic, and gallbladder diseases, abdominal wall hernias, and other digestive disorders.

A certified general surgeon by the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Prof. O'Reilly further honed his skills during a fellowship focused on liver and pancreatic diseases. He has held prestigious roles, including serving as Clinical Director of HPB at Greater Manchester Cancer and as a senior surgeon at Manchester Royal Infirmary. He also contributes to producing clinical guidelines for the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

In addition to his clinical practice, Prof. O'Reilly has published over 80 research articles in leading peer-reviewed journals, such as The Lancet, The Journal of the American Medical Association, and Annals of Surgery. Currently, he is an Honorary Professor in the Division of Cancer Sciences at the University of Manchester and an expert in advancing surgical techniques through the integration of AI.

Before joining Beijing United Family Hospital, Prof. O'Reilly had made significant contributions to advancing surgical practices and improving patient outcomes. His dedication to clinical excellence and research continues to shape the field of general and HPB surgery.
