Prof. Mark K. Wax and Prof. Wen-Guo Cui Appointed as Editors-in-Chief of the Plastic and Aesthetic Research Journal
Plastic and Aesthetic Research (PAR) warmly welcomes Prof. Wen-Guo Cui from Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, China, and Prof. Mark K. Wax from Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, USA, as the new Editors-in-Chief. Both esteemed scholars have significantly contributed to the journal as Deputy Editors, enhancing its academic quality and development. Their promotion heralds a new chapter in the journal's evolution.
We express our sincere gratitude to the founding Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Raúl González-García, from University Hospital Infanta Cristina, Spain, for his tremendous contributions over the past decade.
Under the leadership of Prof. Cui and Prof. Wax, PAR aims to continue its mission of driving high-quality academic research, fostering international collaboration, and advancing innovation in the field of global plastic and aesthetic research.
Introduction of the New Editors-in-Chief
Prof. Mark K. Wax
Prof. Mark K. Wax is a distinguished faculty member in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). He also serves as the Director of the Residency Training Program and the Facial Plastic and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at OHSU. As an esteemed expert in facial plastic surgery, microvascular reconstruction, and head and neck surgery, Prof. Wax is celebrated for his innovative approaches to facial reconstruction and minimally invasive techniques.
Prof. Wax has an impressive academic track record, with an H-index of 51 and over 200 high-quality publications spanning topics such as head and neck cancer, microvascular surgery, and facial nerve recovery. His work is widely cited in the international medical community, and he frequently presents at global academic conferences.
Prof. Wax's numerous accolades include the "American Head and Neck Society Distinguished Contribution Award" and the "Best Research in Facial Plastic Surgery Award." As a former President of the American Head and Neck Society (AHNS), he established its Reconstruction Committee, advancing technologies in head and neck reconstructive surgery. As the Education Co-Coordinator for the largest ENT organization in the U.S., he has played a vital role in organizing educational and training programs to mentor future talent in the field.
Additionally, as an influential member of prestigious organizations such as AHNS and the International Facial Plastic Surgery Society (IFPS), Prof. Wax has chaired many international conferences and held key positions, fostering global collaboration and innovation in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Prof. Wen-Guo Cui
Prof. Wen-Guo Cui leads the Regenerative Medicine and Materials Team at Ruijin Hospital and serves as the Director of the Science and Technology Development Department, Executive Deputy Director of the Ruijin Hospital/Shanghai Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedics, Director of the Biomedical Engineering Center, and Deputy Director of the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine for the Prevention and Treatment of Bone and Joint Diseases. Recognized as a distinguished national-level talent under China's “Youth Top Talent” program and a leader in academic excellence by the Shanghai Science and Technology Committee and Health Commission, Prof. Cui is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) and the Chinese Society for Biomaterials (FCSB). He has been named an Elsevier Highly Cited Researcher in Clinical Medicine for three consecutive years (2021/2022/2023).
His research focuses on regenerative medical materials for sports injuries. With over 200 SCI-indexed publications (more than 100 with an impact factor above 15), he holds an H-index of 82 and has amassed over 22,000 citations. He has authored 16 ESCI Highly Cited Papers and holds more than 70 patents, 14 of which have been commercially translated. In addition, Prof. Cui has led and participated in several national key research initiatives, including six National Natural Science Foundation projects (two as key projects) and major national science and technology programs.
