OAE Publishing Welcomes Nobel Laureate Professor Dan Shechtman and Distinguished Guests for an Academic Exchange Visit to Its China Office
On the afternoon of October 30, 2024, Professor Dan Shechtman, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry (2011) and Director of the Shechtman Nanomaterials Research Institute at Xi'an University of Technology, along with Jiang Renguo, Deputy Director of the Development and Reform Bureau of Xi'an High-tech Zone; Yang Qing, Vice Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Xi'an University of Technology; Xu Chunjie, Executive Director of the Shechtman Nanomaterials Research Institute at Xi'an University of Technology; Zeng Fanhong, Chairman of Xi'an Shechtman Nanomaterials Research Institute Co., Ltd.; and Liu Ge, General Manager of Xi'an Shechtman Nanomaterials Research Institute Co., Ltd., visited the China office of OAE Publishing Inc. for an academic exchange visit.
The group was warmly welcomed by Mr. Fan Min, President of OAE Publishing’s China operations, Ms. Li Jing, Deputy Publisher, and other senior department heads of the company. Under Ms. Li’s guidance, Professor Shechtman and the guests toured the Xi'an editorial office, gaining firsthand insight into OAE’s professional working environment. Ms. Li also provided an in-depth briefing on the company’s development history, strategic partnerships, and future plans. The visit aimed to strengthen collaborations between OAE Publishing and academic scholars and institutions and promote innovation in knowledge dissemination.
At the subsequent roundtable, Ms. Li introduced the attendees, and all present extended a warm welcome to Professor Shechtman and the honored guests.
Ms. Li then elaborated on OAE’s open-access publishing model and the company’s evolution in digital publishing. She highlighted OAE’s journal operations and digital platforms, emphasizing the company’s strengths across various academic disciplines and its key role in fostering international academic exchange. Professor Shechtman and the respected visitors commended OAE’s open-access approach, recognizing its potential to drive sustainable academic publishing and expand the company’s influence in the field.
Given the alignment between Professor Shechtman’s research and OAE’s Microstructures journal, Executive Editor Ms. Ding Yuanyuan presented a comprehensive report on the journal’s development. She outlined its growth since its inception, emphasizing its impact on microstructure research and its focus on pioneering topics. Ms. Ding highlighted the journal’s commitment to publishing high-quality, innovative research that facilitates global academic collaboration. The guests expressed strong interest in Microstructures, acknowledging its significant contributions to the field and their enthusiasm for future collaborative opportunities.
In the open discussion that followed, Professor Shechtman praised OAE’s achievements in academic publishing, particularly the implementation of open access, which he believes has significantly advanced the sharing and dissemination of academic knowledge. He noted that open access not only broadens access to scholarly work but also enhances transparency and fosters a spirit of collaboration. Additionally, Professor Shechtman offered insightful recommendations for OAE’s continued growth, stressing the importance of staying at the forefront of research. He suggested that OAE focus on launching specialized journals in emerging, innovative fields and proposed the introduction of more than three new journals annually to offer fresh platforms for interdisciplinary academic exchange. He expressed confidence in OAE’s future and looked forward to exploring further collaboration.
Mr. Fan Min, President of OAE Publishing’s China Office, concluded the session by reaffirming the company’s commitment to academic responsibility and service. He emphasized the company’s core mission to advance knowledge dissemination and academic progress, pledging to continue strengthening collaborations with the global academic community while providing high-quality publishing services that meet the evolving needs of scholars.
