Great News: A New Journal Ageing and Neurodegenerative Diseases Led by Professor Wei-Dong Le Officially Released Online
On February 8, 2021, the new journal Ageing and Neurodegenerative Diseases (AND) was officially released online.
Ageing is a major risk factor for neurodegeneration, and the prevalence of ageing-related neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, etc. continues to rise with the increased ageing population. Unfortunately, there are no effective treatments available for the age-related neurodegenerative diseases. Thus, to develop successful interventions, it is important to investigate the basic mechanisms of ageing and their roles in the onset and progression of neurodegenerative diseases. Therefore, we have launched this new journal, which aims to report innovative research advances in this field.
We are honored to have Professor Wei-Dong Le, deputy director of the Academic Committee and the director of the Institute of Neurology, Sichuan Academy of Medical Science-Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital, Sichuan Province of China, to serve as the Editor-in-Chief for AND.
Professor Le is currently the deputy director of the Academic Committee and the director of the Institute of Neurology, Sichuan Academy of Medical Science-Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital, China. He is also a life-time Professor of Neurology and the director of Center for Translational Research on Neurological Diseases, the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University, China. He has been engaged in clinical practice, teaching and research of neurology for almost 40 years, including 24 years of work in Baylor College of Medicine as a Professor of Neurology and Director of the Parkinson's Disease Research Center, and 10 years of working as a Professor of Neuroscience and Head of Neurogenomic Lab in the Institute of Health Science of Chinese Academy of Science jointed with Shanghai Jiao-Tong University School of Medicine, China.
His research interests include the cellular and molecular basis of neuronal injury in neurodegenerative diseases including Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, and ALS. His research program focuses on identifying novel genetic and environmental factors involving the molecular mechanisms and pathological pathways of the three major neurodegenerative diseases. So far, he has published over 317 scientific papers in peer reviewed journals (Scopus information: H-index of 70, ca.18,000 citations) and 10 scientific books, and has been selected as one of the "Highly Cited Chinese Scholars" in Neuroscience released by the international evaluation agency Elsevier for 6 consecutive years. Besides, having organized many international conferences as the chairman of the organizing committee and delivered reports, he has received numerous recognitions and honors for his research.
Under the active invitation of Professor Le, 42 outstanding experts and scholars with significant academic influence in the field joined the Editorial Board of the journal, including 2 Honorary Editors-in-Chief, 5 Advisory Editors, 5 Associate Editors, and 30 Editorial Board Members. Among them, there are 6 people with an H-index (Scopus) higher than 100, and several "Highly Cited Scholars".
Professor Le and the members of the Editorial Board have made detailed plans for the future development of AND, and are full of confidence in making AND an internationally influential journal in this field.
OAE highly appreciates Professor Le's support and the Editorial Office of AND will work jointly with Professor Le to create a high-level journal with international influence. We believe that with the joint efforts of Professor Le and all members of the Editorial Board and the Editorial Office, this goal will be achieved in the near future.
