Topic: Emerging Marine Pollutants Challenges and Solutions for a Sustainable Ocean

Over the past decades, numerous emerging pollutants have entered the water cycle due to extensive usage. The development of sensitive analytical methods has facilitated their identification and measurement in environmental samples, with toxicity tests revealing the magnitude of the issue. Pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, disinfection by-products, and micro- and nano-plastics are some key examples, while ongoing studies continue to identify new pollutants and their transformation products, particularly in the ocean.

This Special Issue focuses on studies concerning the development and optimization of methods for detecting emerging pollutants in marine waters and sediments, evaluating their environmental and toxic impacts, and exploring strategies for reducing their presence and mitigating their effects. We welcome original research, reviews, communications, and perspectives on all topics related to the detection, mitigation, and management of emerging pollutants for a sustainable marine environment.
