Special Issue Introduction

Diabetic foot ulcer syndrome (DFS), a debilitating and lethal disease, afflicts millions of patients and challenges the resources of health systems across the globe.  Despite having a prognosis worse than most common cancers, it is poorly understood, and current therapies are effective in 50% of patients or less.  Diabetic foot ulcers can take months to heal and remain the most common cause of lower extremity amputation.

This issue will focus on the latest advances in the prevention and treatment of diabetic foot ulcers. It will feature novel technologies, unique approaches to care, diagnostic testing and the prevention of complications. By highlighting current research and clinical insights, this issue aims to provide healthcare professionals with a comprehensive understanding of DFUs and enhance their ability to deliver effective care.
