Special Issue Introduction

The catalytic transformation of biomass into high-value chemicals represents a critical area of research of sustainable and renewable resource utilization. In recent years, with the depletion of traditional fossil fuels and the ongoing development of the global economy, the need for alternative resources has become increasingly urgent. Biomass, characterized by its diverse nature and abundance, has emerged as a particularly promising alternative for producing various chemicals, fuels, and materials. Current research focuses on developing efficient catalytic materials for converting biomass selectively into high-value chemicals, which is essential for reducing dependence on fossil resources and lowering carbon footprints.

This Special Issue aims to highlight the latest advancements and research findings in catalytic conversion of biomass into valuable chemical products through selective cleavage of C-C and C-O bonds and the construction of new C-N, C-H bonds. We invite contributions in the form of original research and review articles on the following themes, among others:

● Selective cleavage of C-O and C-C bonds of biomass or platform molecules;

● Heterogeneous/homogeneous catalytic conversion of biomass ;

● Photocatalytic/electrocatalytic/thermal catalytic conversion of biomass;

● Comprehensive mechanistic studies;

● Green reaction routes for producing valuable compounds;

● Exploration of different biomass sources (lignocellulosic materials, agricultural residues, and organic waste).
