Special Issue Introduction
Welding is a common technique for fabricating complex structures or large dimension components in engineering systems. However, welded joints are often the most vulnerable points, potentially compromising the overall reliability of complex engineering systems. Therefore, assessing these joints and understanding their impact on system reliability is crucial. Welded joints are widely used in various industries, including power plants, fuel cells, chip manufacturing, and new energy vehicles. Their evaluation involves analyzing their structure, properties, modeling, processing and the interrelationships among these factors. Additionally, the physical and chemical properties of welded joints, determined by chemical composition and microstructure, are affected by the forming process, which is critical for reliability of complex engineering systems in practical applications.
This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for research on the assessment of welded joints and their influence on system reliability to explore more possibilities for addressing intractable challenges complex engineering systems face.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the studies mentioned above. Other relevant areas, such as the design of novel welded constructions or modifications of welded joints, structural integrity assessment, machine learning applied to welded structures, and innovative welding methods, are also encouraged as they may expand the scope of possible applications. We warmly welcome research articles and reviews in these fields.
