Special Issue Introduction

Nonlinear dynamics encompasses various fields of natural sciences and engineering technology. Nonlinear dynamical systems, bifurcation and chaos theory have been widely applied in mechanical engineering, structural engineering, and aerospace, where composite plates and shells always serve as the base structure. These plates and shells frequently operate in complicated environments. When some coupled forces are considered, the nonlinear dynamic responses of these structures become highly intricate, posing significant technical challenges in engineering applications. 

This Special Issue aims to focus on research of nonlinear dynamics of diverse composite plates and shells, including those made from functionally graded materials, fiber-reinforced composite materials, sandwich structures, porous metal foams, Graphene reinforced composite materials, Carbon nano-reinforced composite materials, smart materials, and others. Presenting original research on the nonlinear dynamics of these structures will help establish governing equations of motion and methods for analyzing dynamical systems. Additionally, it will contribute to understanding their unique complex nonlinear dynamic behaviors and the mechanisms behind them. 

The topics of interest relevant to nonlinear dynamics of composite material plates and shells are welcomed, including but not limited to:

1. Advanced modeling and analysis for composite material plates and shells;

2. Nonlinear dynamics and their mechanisms of composite material plates and shells;

3. Nonlinear vibration control methods of composite material plates and shells;

4. Advances about the analysis methods of nonlinear vibration of the plates and shells.
