Ageing and Neurodegenerative Diseases (AND) 2024 Annual Report

The Ageing and Neurodegenerative Diseases (AND) journal is proud to unveil its 2024 Annual Report, showcasing significant achievements in academic influence, Editorial Board expansion, and community engagement.

As we reflect on a year marked by progress and innovation, the unwavering dedication of our Editorial Board members, reviewers, and authors has been instrumental in upholding the high standards that define our journal's ongoing success.

Key Highlights:

1. Spearheaded Thought Leadership: Successfully organized a high-impact webinar and conducted exclusive interviews with four renowned experts, offering invaluable insights into the field.
2. Boosted Academic Recognition: Elevated Google Scholar citations from 69 in 2023 to an impressive 91 in 2024, significantly strengthening the journal's academic presence and credibility.
3. Pioneered Cutting-Edge Discussions: Introduced five Special Issues focusing on groundbreaking topics in neurodegenerative research, driving thought-provoking contributions and advancing the field.

Submission and Publication Metrics

In 2024, AND continued to grow in influence, receiving 44 manuscript submissions and publishing 19 papers, underscoring the journal’s expanding recognition in neurodegenerative research.

As illustrated in Figure 1, the majority of these publications originated from the United States (21%), China (58%), and Germany (6%).

Among our 25 corresponding authors, we proudly highlight contributions from distinguished scholars, such as:

  • Prof. Yu-Feng Zang (Hangzhou Normal University)
  • Prof. Huaibin Cai (National Institutes of Health)
  • Prof. Renjie Chai (Southeast University)

Notably, 37% of our authors have an H-index between 20 and 50, and 10% boast an H-index of 50 or higher (Figure 2).

New Editorial Board Members

In 2024, AND welcomed six renowned scholars to its Editorial Board, further enhancing our academic leadership. These new members, from top global institutions, bring diverse expertise in neurodegenerative fields (Figure 3).

Special Issues

This year, AND collaborated with eight distinguished Guest Editors to launch five Special Issues (Figure 4). Each Guest Editor has an H-index exceeding 40, reflecting their exceptional contributions to the field. These Special Issues address critical and emerging topics in neurodegenerative research, providing valuable insights and further enhancing the journal’s impact.

Academic Activities

AND actively organized and participated in several academic activities throughout the year, including a webinar focused on writing guidance for authors and four expert-led academic talks (Figure 5). Highlight videos from these events are available at:

Citation Growth

In 2024,  AND saw a substantial increase in citations, with Google Scholar citations rising from 69 in 2023 to 91 in 2024 (Figure 6). This growth underscores the journal’s expanding impact within the scientific community.

Expert Visits

In 2024, Ms. Haidi Ding, our publisher, visited several esteemed Editorial Board members, including:

  • Prof. Guoyuan Yang
  • Prof. Xiaojiang Li
  • Dr. Sen Yan

These visits fostered valuable discussions on journal development strategies and strengthened collaborations. In November, we had the honor of hosting Prof. Le Weidong, Editor-in-Chief, at our Xi'an Office to discuss the future development of AND, centering on refining editorial strategies and identifying emerging research areas (Figure 7).

Editorial Board Meeting

The AND These visits fostered valuable discussions on journal development strategies and strengthened collaborations.
