Special Issue Introduction

Welcome to this special issue on the "Mini-invasive Treatment of Bariatric Surgery." Obesity has become a global epidemic, with significant health, social, and economic implications. Bariatric surgery has emerged as one of the most effective treatments for severe obesity, offering significant and sustainable weight loss along with improvements in obesity-related comorbidities.

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in mini-invasive approaches to bariatric surgery, aiming to minimize surgical trauma, accelerate postoperative recovery, and enhance patient satisfaction. Mini-invasive techniques, including laparoscopic and robotic-assisted procedures, offer several advantages over traditional open surgery, such as smaller incisions, reduced blood loss, faster recovery times, and improved cosmetic outcomes.

This special issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state-of-the-art in mini-invasive bariatric surgery. We have gathered a collection of original research articles, review papers, and clinical studies from leading experts in the field.

Topics covered in this issue include but are not limited to:
1. Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy;
2. Laparoscopic gastric bypass;
3. Robotic-assisted bariatric surgery;
4. Mini-gastric bypass;
5. Single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) for bariatric procedures;
6. Endoscopic bariatric interventions;
7. Revisional mini-invasive bariatric surgery;
8. Outcomes and complications of mini-invasive bariatric procedures;
9. Patient selection and perioperative management in mini-invasive bariatric surgery.

We hope that this special issue will serve as a valuable resource for bariatric surgeons, gastroenterologists, endoscopists, obesity specialists, and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients with obesity. By exploring the latest advances and evidence-based practices in mini-invasive bariatric surgery, we aim to improve patient outcomes, enhance surgical techniques, and advance the field towards a safer, more effective, and personalized approach to the treatment of obesity.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the authors who have contributed their work to this special issue, as well as to the reviewers for their valuable feedback and insights. We hope that readers will find this collection informative, thought-provoking, and inspiring, and that it will stimulate further research and innovation in the field of mini-invasive bariatric surgery.
