Special Issue Introduction

In today’s digital age, vast amounts of data are being generated at an unprecedented rate across various domains, from business and healthcare to social media and scientific research. However, raw data alone holds limited value; it is the ability to extract meaningful insights that truly drives innovation and decision-making. This is where Intelligent Data Mining (IDM) and Knowledge Discovery come into play.

 

IDM refers to the process of using advanced computational techniques to uncover hidden patterns, trends, and relationships within large datasets. It combines elements of machine learning, statistical analysis, computational intelligence, artificial intelligence, and database systems to mine valuable information from raw data. Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD), on the other hand, is a broader field that involves the complete process of identifying useful knowledge from data, which includes data preparation, data cleaning, pattern recognition, post-processing, etc.

 

The ultimate goal of these disciplines is to transform unstructured and complex data into actionable knowledge that can support better decision-making, predictive modeling, and strategic planning. IDM and KDD are applied across many industries to solve critical problems, such as improving customer experiences, detecting fraud, enhancing medical diagnoses, and optimizing supply chains. Potential topics of this Special Issue include but are not limited to the following:
