Special Issue Introduction
The Special Issue aims to address the critical environmental and public health challenges posed by atmospheric pollutants, such as particulate matter, inorganic pollutants, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs). These pollutants originate from various sources, including industrial emissions, vehicular exhaust, and agricultural activities, and can persist in the environment, posing significant health risks due to their toxicity and ability to accumulate in living organisms. The Special Issue will explore key topics such as the characterization of pollutant sources, human exposure pathways, exposure and effect biomarkers, and health risk assessments. It will also highlight advancements in analytical methods and discuss effective mitigation strategies and policy implications to reduce exposure for the protection of public health.
By consolidating cutting-edge research, this issue seeks to enhance scientific understanding of the behavior and impacts of pollutants in the atmosphere, support evidence-based policymaking, and foster interdisciplinary collaboration. We invite contributions from researchers and practitioners in environmental science, toxicology, public health, chemistry, and policy studies, with an emphasis on providing new insights into exposure pathways and health risks. The ultimate goal is to promote a healthier and more sustainable environment through comprehensive assessments and innovative solutions to manage and mitigate the risks associated with atmospheric pollutants.
All submissions MUST consider the implications for human and/or wildlife exposure to contaminants. Please see the Aims and Scope of JEEA for further guidance.
