Special Issue
Topic: Integrated Assessment of Climate and Environmental Policy for a Carbon Neutral Future
Guest Editor(s)
Special Issue Introduction
In the face of ongoing challenges posed by global climate change, the trend in global carbon emissions remains a matter of concern. The IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) highlights that in the next 20 years, the global average temperature is expected to reach or exceed 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels (1850-1900). With prompt greenhouse gas emission reductions and the attainment of net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050, there exists a high probability of constraining warming to below 2°C, with a strong likelihood of limiting it to below 1.6°C, and the potential for further reduction to below 1.5°C by the end of the century. More stringent and innovative policy measures are imperative to meet the temperature targets set by the Paris Agreement.
This Special Issue is dedicated to exploring how scientific policy analysis and integrated decision evaluations can optimize the formulation and implementation of climate and environmental policies. Broadly, this includes but is not limited to several fields as follows: Assessment of climate change policy and its economic impact; formulation and evaluation of environmental policies; policy drivers and barriers to low-carbon technologies; data-driven systems for environmental decision support; and integrated assessment of climate adaptation and mitigation strategies. By focusing on these key areas, this Special Issue aims to present cutting-edge scientific research and practical case studies aimed at bolstering global climate governance and fostering progress toward a low-carbon future.
