Microbiome Research Reports (MRR) is excited to announce the launch of its inaugural Early Career Researchers Editorial Board! As a fast-growing journal in the field of microbiome research, we are committed to fostering the next generation of academic leaders by offering early-career researchers the opportunity to gain valuable editorial experience while contributing to the advancement of microbiome science.

Who Should Apply?

We are seeking early-career researchers who meet the following criteria:

  • Age: Ideally under 40 years old, with an international perspective.
  • Dedication and Experience: Active in the scientific community, familiar with journal workflows, and possess strong research skills. Preference will be given to candidates with outstanding research abilities and those who can commit time and energy to the journal.
  • Academic Status: PhD, postdoctoral fellows, or early-stage faculty members specializing in human and animal microbiome-related fields, with at least five published SCI articles as a first or corresponding author.
  • Additional Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who have led national research projects or have international experience (e.g., study, work, or research abroad).

Responsibilities of the Early Career Researchers Editorial Board:

As a member of the Early Career Researchers Editorial Board, your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing submitted manuscripts and providing constructive feedback to authors. Identifying expert reviewers for the peer-review process.
  • Recommending and inviting high-quality manuscripts from researchers in your field.
  • Assisting in organizing Special Issues or collections.
  • Promoting the journal’s content through social media and other platforms to enhance the journal’s impact.

About the journal:

MRR (ISSN: 2771-5965) is an international peer-reviewed, open-access journal founded by OAE Publishing Inc. in 2021. The journal published its first issue in March 2022, with Prof. Marco Ventura from the University of Parma, Italy, serving as Editor-in-Chief. MRR is currently indexed in databases such as ESCI, Scopus, PMC, CAS, and Lens. As of now, the MRR Editorial Board consists of 48 members, including 11 Highly Cited Researchers such as Prof. Rodolphe Barrangou, Prof. Paul Ross, Prof. Douwe van Sinderen, Prof. Catherine Stanton, and Prof. Miguel Gueimonde. The journal has published 111 high-quality articles, with content for Volume 3, Issue 4, currently in progress.

The journal aims to publish high-quality research on human and animal microbiomes, with a focus on the identification of microbial taxa and their functional studies, particularly the roles of microbial genes and microbial metabolite markers related to health and disease. MRR follows the Gold Open Access model, where all articles are immediately accessible online for free and permanently from the date of publication. MRR is expected to receive its first impact factor in June 2025, with the potential to rank in the Q1 category in the field of microbiology.
