Bio
Dr. Comandatore has a background in the study of bacterial evolution using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data, including Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS), amplicon and shotgun metagenomics, and RNA-Seq analysis. I have applied these methods to investigate the evolutionary and metabolic relationships between bacteria, hosts, and environments. To this end, I have studied various biological systems, ranging from arthropod-associated symbionts to human pathogens. In my research group, we also develop molecular biology and bioinformatics protocols and tools to investigate bacterial genetics and microbiota composition. These include software for PCR/HRM primer design and analysis (EasyPrimer and MeltingPlot), coreSNP calling (Purple and P-DOR), and metagenomics (Forestax). Recently, our focus has shifted to exploring the relationship between oral microbiota (including Candidate Phyla Radiation) and human health.
