Announcement of the New Journal--Carbon Footprints

Published on: 22 Nov 2021 Viewed: 1317

We are pleased to announce that the new journal--Carbon Footprints (CF) is officially released online on November 17, 2021. It will be dedicated to publishing articles on all aspects of the greenhouse gases produced directly or indirectly to support human activities.

The term carbon footprint refers to the emissions of all greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide (CO2), methane, nitrous oxide, and chlorofluorocarbons, which is expressed as the amount (tons) of CO2 produced during a given period. We aim to deepen the understanding of the carbon footprint associated with various human activities, the patterns and processes governing it, and the nature of interactions between carbon footprint and other environmental factors that influence ecosystem services.

As the awareness of the seriousness of the high carbon footprint is increasing at all local, regional, and global levels, this journal will provide a forum to discuss the existing problems and present science-based management approaches to addressing the issues. It is aimed not only at the scientific and academic community but also at environmental managers, policy experts, and others concerned with the sustainable use of environmental resources.

We are honored to invite Professor P. K. Ramachandran Nair from the University of Florida, Gainesville, USA, to serve as the Editor-in-Chief for this new journal Carbon Footprints.

Prof. P. K. Ramachandran Nair, Distinguished Professor (Emeritus) at the University of Florida, is a pioneer in the academic field of agroforestry. Soil carbon sequestration in agroforestry systems has been his major area of research for the past two decades. His other areas of expertise include soil fertility, ecosystem services, and sustainable land use. Following his innovative work on multi-strata cropping systems with tree crops in his native Kerala, India, in the 1970s, he became a founding member and a lead scientist of ICRAF (World Agroforestry), a CGIAR center, in Kenya. He joined the University of Florida as a Professor in 1987 and was named Distinguished Professor in 2001. He holds six doctoral degrees – two earned and four honoris causa. He has traveled widely, worked on five continents, published prolifically, and has earned several distinctions. Prof. Nair is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and several other professional societies. His numerous other recognitions include the IUFRO Scientific Achievement Award, Research Award of the Society of American Foresters, Fulbright Distinguished Chair Award, and the Humboldt Prize, Germany.

We highly appreciate the great support of Professor Nair and all members of the Editorial Board. We are all looking forward to the success of this new journal with our joint efforts.
