Bio
Dr. Wei Chen is an Associate Professor in the School of Environmental Studies, at the China University of Geosciences, Wuhan, China. Before that, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the State Key Laboratory of Environmental and Biological Analysis of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) from May 2017 to July 2018. From 2012 to 2016, he was studying for his Ph.D. at the Lancaster Environment Centre (LEC) of Lancaster University in the UK. Wei’s research focuses on the environmental (geo)chemistry and health effects of emerging contaminants (ECs, including emerging organic contaminants (EOCs) and microplastics) and persistent toxic substances (PTS, including persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and heavy metals). This includes 1) Fate, bioavailability, and exposure risk assessment of ECs and PTS in the different environmental matrix (water, soil, sediment, air, and biota), and the environmental epidemiology of EOCs and PTS; 2) Identification of potential/novel EOCs and POPs using high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) and analytical method development for ECs and POPs in environmental samples and biota based on the technique of mass spectrometry (MS) and 3) Development of novel passive samplers based on the technique of diffusion gradients in thin-films (DGT) for EOCs and potential POPs and its applications for the bioavailability, target screening, and non-target screening.
