Bio
Dr. Valsecchi received her master's degree in Biological Sciences in 1995 at the University of Milan. Sara Valsecchi is employed as a Senior Researcher at the CNR Water Research Institute (Italy). Her main research activity is the study of environmental distribution, fate, and effects of emerging pollutants in the water cycle, particularly poly and perfluorinated substances (PFAS). She is a member of several national and European commissions and working groups for the definition and implementation of water regulations. She is the author of more than 100 articles in national and international scientific journals on the following research topics: development and validation of analytical methods for the analysis of chemical contaminants in environments; study of the fate, distribution, and effects of inorganic and organic pollutants in aquatic environments; source and occurrence of perfluoroalkyl substances in environmental matrices; bioaccumulation, toxicity and bioavailability of inorganic and organic pollutants in benthic invertebrates. Current researches are focused on the application of high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) for the identification of new contaminants in complex environmental and biological matrices and on the identification of sources and distribution of compound of emerging contents to support risk assessment and management.
Research Interests
Emerging contaminants, Poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances, Environmental quality standards, Fate of organic pollutants, Bioaccumulation, Biota monitoring, HPLC-MS
