Bio
Laureate Professor Ravi Naidu is Australia’s foremost contamination and remediation scientist. He has achieved scientific breakthroughs on how contaminants interact with a broad variety of soils, their chemical bioavailability, and new methods for accurately speciating certain contaminants, assessing risk, and remediating contaminated sites. His findings have opened up myriad new lines for future research and have had a profound impact on the practice of contamination management – both nationally and internationally. Professor Naidu is viewed as a global leader in bringing together industry, government, and research to tackle the scourge of contamination and ensure that future generations are protected. Following his appointment at the University of Newcastle, he established the Global Centre for Environmental Remediation (GCER), which is externally funded and supports 45 research scientists and 50 Ph.D. students. The Centre attracts visiting scientists from both developing and developed countries. Along with this, Professor Naidu is also the CEO and managing director of the Cooperative Research Centre for Contamination Assessment and Remediation of the Environment (CRC CARE) which brings together major end-users and the Australian Government supporting research on contaminants. CRC CARE is the only Australian Centre of Excellence researching contaminants.
