Dr. Malafaia is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology Goiano (Goiás State, Brazil). He received a bachelor’s degree from the Federal University of Ouro Preto, an MS from the Federal University of Goiás, and a Ph.D. and Postdoc from the Federal University of Goiás, all related to Environmental and Biological Sciences. He is directing the Biological Research Laboratory with a focus on the ecotoxicological assessment of emerging pollutants, including micro- and nanoplastics, nanomaterials, nanofibers, pesticides, drug residues, etc. The ongoing research projects in his lab use different animal species as model systems (eg: mice, zebrafish, guppy, Amazon turtle, tadpole, Japanese quails, mosquito larvae, earthworms, and dragonfly larvae, in addition to aquatic and native plants from Brazilian Cerrado).
