Special Issue Introduction
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are persistent and pervasive environmental contaminants, widely known for their extreme resistance to degradation and potential to bioaccumulate in living organisms. The increasing presence of PFAS in water systems, soils, and even human tissues has sparked significant global concerns due to their adverse effects on ecosystems and human health. As regulatory bodies and research communities intensify their efforts to address these pressing challenges, there is a growing need for innovative strategies to control and remove PFAS from various environments.
This Special Issue, "Research Advances in the Control and Removal Strategies for PFAS Contaminants," compiles the latest research findings and technological innovations in PFAS management. We invite contributions that explore new methods for the detection, control, and removal of PFAS, with topics including but not limited to advanced oxidation processes, adsorption techniques, bioremediation, thermal treatment methods, the fate and transport of PFAS in different environmental matrices, and the development of regulatory frameworks and risk assessments. Submissions may take the form of research articles, reviews, systematic reviews, short communications, commentaries, editorials, letters to the editor, and perspectives. By enhancing our understanding of PFAS behavior in the environment and promoting the development of innovative remediation technologies, this issue aims to provide valuable insights for scientists and policymakers in the effective management of PFAS contamination.
