Special Issue Introduction
The advancement of flexible energy harvesting and storage devices represents a paradigm shift in both technology and design, offering vast potential for new applications in sectors such as healthcare, wearables, environmental monitoring, and next-generation communications. Traditional rigid structures that dominate energy harvesting and storage are increasingly replaced by flexible, stretchable, and foldable alternatives, enabling groundbreaking innovations. This Special Issue highlights the most recent developments in materials, device architectures, and integration techniques that make flexible energy harvesting and storage devices more efficient, scalable, and commercially viable. We welcome contributions investigating novel material formulations, innovative device architectures, manufacturing and scalability. Notable materials include conductive polymers, 2D materials such as graphene, and flexible organic semiconductors that maintain their electrical properties even under mechanical strain. Innovations in flexible, lightweight, high-energy-density batteries, supercapacitors, and energy harvesting systems such as piezoelectric, thermoelectric, and solar cells are particularly encouraged. We also invite submissions on advances in stretchable electronics such as systems that incorporate flexible sensors, circuits, and transistors into deformable substrates. Finally, works on scalable production techniques, such as roll-to-roll printing and flexible substrates, for flexible energy and electronic devices are highly encouraged.
