Special Issue Introduction
The clinical use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been extensively described for a wide variety of applications, most prevalently, in chronic wounds, bone and maxillofacial defects, diabetic foot ulcers, and most recently in hair loss. Additionally, several papers reported the effects of PRP in the enhancement of fat grafting during application in vivo in soft tissue defects. Contextually, in vitro, PRP induced a significant increase in the number of adipose-tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs) compared to control cultures as extensively described in the literature. All these results documented that PRP accelerates chronic skin ulcer reepithelization and improves the maintenance and function of fat graft in patients undergoing regenerative plastic surgery. The aim of this special issue is to collect original articles, reviews, and systematic reviews on the use of PRP in skin regeneration analyzing different fields of application including aesthetic and reconstructive.
