Special Issue Introduction
Wound healing is one of the most complex and important processes in the human body. It involves the spatial and temporal synchronization of a variety of cell types with distinct roles in the phases of hemostasis, inflammation, growth, re-epithelialization, and remodeling. Chronic or non-healing wounds, such as venous and diabetic leg ulcers, complicated by advanced age, poor nutrition, and patients’ comorbidities, represent a significant health and financial burden to individuals and healthcare systems. Although researchers have made strides in comprehending wound healing mechanisms and specific cell functions in wound repair, many underlying pathophysiological processes are still unknown. In this Special Issue, entitled "Skin Wound Healing and Aesthetic Outcomes", we will highlight new knowledge and therapies in cutaneous wound healing from both clinical and experimental studies, such as the use of nanotechnologies, advanced medications, and surgical and regenerative techniques, which will provide a future perspective to interesting and promising approaches.
