Special Issue Introduction
Artificial intelligence in plastic surgery is no longer a concept of the future—it is today’s reality. In this issue, we invite scholarly submissions addressing a wide array of AI applications, including but not limited to:
● Machine learning for surgical planning and outcome prediction;
● Computer vision and deep learning in intraoperative guidance;
● AI-assisted robotics in microsurgical precision and automation;
● 3D simulation, anatomical modeling, and augmented reality integration;
● Large Language Models (LLMs), such as GPT-based systems, in medical; documentation, decision support, patient communication, and education;
● Natural language processing in research synthesis and literature mining;
● AI in Surgical Planning and 3D Modeling for Reconstructive Procedures;
● AI-Enhanced Robotics and Navigation in Reconstructive Surgery;
● Large Language Models (LLMs) in Clinical Documentation and Decision Support;
● AI Applications in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine;
● Ethical and Regulatory Considerations in AI Integration;
● AI in Surgical Education and Training.
A Global Call for Contributions
This special issue follows the tremendous response to our recent PAR webinar, “The Potential of AI in Reconstructive Surgery ”, highlighting the global enthusiasm for integrating AI across our discipline. It invites clinicians, researchers, engineers, and innovators to submit original research articles, systematic reviews, clinical case series, technical notes, and perspective pieces that illuminate how AI is being integrated across the spectrum of plastic surgery. Multidisciplinary collaborations and translational studies are particularly encouraged.
Our goal is not merely to showcase technological advancements, but to catalyze a broader scientific dialogue that fosters responsible innovation, cross-border partnerships, and ethical foresight.
We sincerely hope this issue becomes a landmark in the growing discourse around AI in surgery—and we look forward to receiving your contributions that will shape the future of our field.
We look forward to your contributions and continued engagement with Plastic and Aesthetic Research.
