Special Issue Introduction
As a novel interdisciplinary field, immunometabolism has attracted significant attention in recent years. Cellular metabolism is a crucial regulator of the activation and differentiation of immune cells. Investigating the crosstalk between metabolic pathways and immune responses is vital for developing targeted therapeutic strategies for various diseases.
This Special Issue invites submissions that elucidate novel molecular mechanisms underlying immunometabolism in both health and disease, as well as its potential applications in clinical targeted therapeutics. We welcome original research articles, reviews, mini-reviews, commentaries, and perspectives focusing on the following topics and beyond:
1. Immunometabolic characteristics of γδ T cells: As a bridge between innate and adaptive immune responses, γδ T cells possess unique biological characteristics and functions. We encourage insights into the immunometabolic characteristics of γδ T cells, including the influence of metabolic pathways and nutrients on γδ T cell differentiation, the metabolic features of γδ T cell subsets, and interventions targeting γδ T cells for disease control.
2. Sex differences in immunometabolism: The impact of sex-based variations on immunometabolic processes.
3. Immunometabolic mechanisms in metabolic diseases: Investigating novel immunometabolic pathways in metabolic disorders such as obesity, diabetes, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
4. Metabolic reprogramming in immune cells: The effects of metabolic reprogramming on immune cell functions, including αβ T cells, macrophages, and dendritic cells.
5. Targeted immunometabolic therapies: Exploring therapeutic strategies targeting immunometabolic pathways for the prevention and treatment of various diseases.
6. Innovative methodologies and technologies: Advancing novel techniques for studying immunometabolism.
