Special Issue Introduction
Chemicals of emerging concern (CECs) - including pharmaceuticals, personal care products, and industrial compounds - have become a major concern for human and environmental health. Increasingly detected in various ecosystems, these chemicals pose potential risks to health and biodiversity. This Special Issue addresses the multifaceted challenges of CEC exposure, promoting the One Health approach that emphasizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. By adopting this holistic perspective, this issue aims to enhance understanding of the exposure risks of CECs present to both people and ecosystems.
The articles in this issue will cover topics such as the pathways through which CECs enter, persist, and interact in the environment, the associated exposure risks, and the effects on human and animal health. Additionally, the issue will evaluate current regulatory and management strategies, identifying gaps and proposing improvements to mitigate the risks of CEC exposure. This comprehensive overview will provide updated scientific information and insights for scientists, policymakers, and practitioners. The goal is to foster informed discussions and inspire innovative solutions to safeguard the health of our planet and its inhabitants. We invite contributions that bring relevant scientific perspectives and findings to this Special Issue.
All submissions MUST address the implications for human and/or wildlife exposure to contaminants. For further guidance, please refer to the Aims and Scope of JEEA.
