Topic: Co-exposure to Environmental Chemical Mixtures: Challenges and Innovations in Health Effect and Risk Assessment

Human populations are increasingly exposed to complex mixtures of environmental chemicals through various pathways, including air, water, soil, food, and consumer products. Traditional risk assessment approaches, which evaluate single chemicals in isolation, fall short in capturing the real-world scenario of co-exposure. This Special Issue focuses on the emerging challenges and cutting-edge innovations in the assessment of exposure to chemical mixtures and their implications for public health. It aims to bridge current gaps in understanding how combined exposures contribute to adverse health outcomes and how new tools and methodologies can enhance exposure characterization and risk evaluation.

The scope includes methodological advancements in mixture exposure modeling, high-throughput and omics-based approaches, cumulative risk assessment frameworks, and novel statistical methods for analyzing multi-pollutant data. The Special Issue will also explore response strategies such as policy interventions, biomonitoring programs, and environmental health surveillance systems. Positioned within the expanding literature on exposome research and environmental epidemiology, this issue will provide an interdisciplinary platform for researchers, regulators, and policymakers to share insights and foster collaboration.
