Special Issue Introduction
Chronic inflammation plays a pivotal role in cancer progression, influencing metastasis and therapeutic resistance through complex interactions within the tumor microenvironment. This Special Issue aims to highlight recent discoveries and advancements in understanding the inflammatory pathways that drive cancer dissemination and treatment resistance. By integrating multi-omics approaches—including genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics—we seek to refine the characterization of inflammatory-driven metastatic progression, identify novel biomarkers, and explore innovative therapeutic strategies.
We invite submissions in various formats, including Original Articles, Reviews, Meta-Analyses, Systematic Reviews, Technical Notes, Commentaries, Editorials, Letters to the Editor, Opinions, and Perspectives, covering but not limited to the following topics:
● The role of chronic inflammation in cancer metastasis;
● Inflammatory cytokines and metastatic progression;
● Tumor microenvironment and immune modulation in metastasis;
● Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) and cancer dissemination;
● The interplay between cancer-associated fibroblasts and inflammation;
● Epigenetic regulation of inflammation in metastatic cancer;
● Impact of microbiota on inflammation-induced cancer progression;
● Inflammatory mechanisms of resistance to chemotherapy and targeted therapy;
● Immunotherapy challenges in the context of tumor-associated inflammation;
● Strategies to target inflammation for overcoming therapy resistance.
This Special Issue will serve as a platform for advancing our understanding of inflammatory mechanisms in cancer metastasis and therapy resistance, fostering the development of precision oncology strategies to improve patient outcomes.
