Special Issue Introduction

Enzymes, nature's masterful catalysts, have long inspired chemists seeking to design efficient, selective, and sustainable synthetic processes. Supramolecular enzyme-mimetic materials represent an exciting convergence of supramolecular chemistry and biomimetic design, offering a powerful platform for creating next-generation catalysts. This Special Issue of Chemical Synthesis is dedicated to exploring the latest advances and future directions in this rapidly evolving field.

Supramolecular enzyme-mimetic materials leverage non-covalent interactions, such as hydrogen bonding, van der Waals forces, and metal coordination, to construct well-defined architectures with enzyme-like properties. These materials can mimic the active sites of enzymes, providing precise control over substrate binding and reaction pathways. Their modular nature allows for facile tuning of catalytic activity and selectivity, opening new avenues for tailored catalysts for specific chemical transformations.

This Special Issue will highlight recent breakthroughs in the design, synthesis, and characterization of supramolecular enzyme-mimetic materials, showcasing their diverse applications in catalysis, sensing, and nanomedicine. We invite original research articles, reviews, and perspectives that address the following topics:
● Novel design strategies for supramolecular enzyme-mimetic materials;
● Synthesis and characterization of biomimetic supramolecular architectures;
● Catalytic mechanisms and applications of supramolecular enzyme-mimetic materials;
● Computational and theoretical studies of supramolecular enzyme-mimetic systems;
● Challenges and future directions in supramolecular enzyme-mimetic material.

This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state-of-the-art and stimulate further research in this promising area. We anticipate that the insights from this collection of articles will contribute to developing more efficient, selective, and sustainable chemical processes, ultimately benefiting society.
