Introduction
To mark the 130th anniversary of Tianjin University, this special issue of Chemical Synthesis highlights cutting-edge advances in low-carbon energy chemistry, showcasing innovative research that bridges fundamental science and sustainable technology. As global decarbonization efforts intensify, this issue focuses on catalytic transformations, advanced material design, and intelligent synthesis strategies to address critical challenges in energy and environmental sustainability.

 

Scope and Themes

 This special issue will cover, but is not limited to, the following key directions:

● CO₂ Chemical Conversion – Electrocatalytic, photocatalytic, and thermocatalytic CO₂ reduction; CO₂-derived polymer synthesis.

● Hydrogen Energy Chemistry– Green hydrogen production, storage, and utilization; solid-state hydrogen carriers and novel hydrogenation pathways.

● Low-Carbon Fuels & Synthetic Chemistry– Sustainable methanol, ethanol, and ammonia fuel synthesis; CO₂-to-fuel conversion and carbon-neutral chemical pathways.

● Advanced Catalytic Materials– Single-atom catalysis, nano-catalysis, and tailored electrocatalysts/photocatalysts.

● Low-Carbon Processes & Intelligent Synthesis– Computational chemistry, AI-optimized green pathways, and autonomous reaction optimization.

● Low-Carbon Biosynthesis– C1 biotransformation, biomass valorization, biofuels, and sustainable bio-based materials.
