Special Issue Introduction
The rapid advancement of technology in the digital age has brought forth new challenges and opportunities in optimizing and controlling complex process industries such as chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, and food processing. These industries often operate with highly nonlinear, dynamic, and interconnected systems, requiring innovative approaches to enhance efficiency, safety, sustainability, and flexibility. Traditional control and optimization methods may no longer suffice in handling the complexity and scale of modern process systems.
This Special Issue aims to highlight the latest research and developments in intelligent optimization and control techniques tailored to the unique demands of complex process industries. We invite contributions that address the integration of advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence, multi-objective optimization, advanced control, and so on, to improve system performance, predictability, and adaptability. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
● Multi-objective optimization and trade-off analysis;
● Artificial intelligence-based decision-making;
● Energy efficiency evaluation and analysis;
● Reinforcement learning-based control approaches;
● Data-driven distributed model predictive control;
● Fault detection, diagnosis, and predictive maintenance;
● Security control under hybrid attacks.
We invite academics, research students, and professionals to submit their original work. Extended conference papers with at least 50% new content are also welcome.
