Special Issue Introduction
New information technology and intelligent systems are increasing in complexity and pervading various sectors, including electric power, integrated energy, embedded electronics, machinery, aerospace, intelligent transportation, and petrochemical industries. These complex modern systems are also characterized by their intricate structures, substantial manufacturing and maintenance costs, and safety and security requirements. Complexity issues pose significant challenges for enhancing system reliability and dependability. These include methods of tolerating malfunctions in actuators, sensors or other system components across inter-connected networks. There have been rapidly growing interests in system-level malfunctions, topology and communication failure, and cyber-attacks, all potentially leading to significant security, safety and economic loss. It is evident that fault-tolerant control methods need to be developed to address these rapidly growing complex system challenges.
This Special Issue aims to highlight recent advancements in fault-tolerant control and security techniques tailored for complex systems. It will focus on addressing both physical safety and cybersecurity issues and exploring fault-tolerant and secure control methodologies. Its scope encompasses theoretical developments and practical applications in domains such as smart grids, integrated energy systems, multi-agent systems, and intelligent transportation.
Potential topics to be covered in this Special Issue include, but are not limited to:
● Robust safety and security for complex systems;
● Model predictive control (MPC)-based safety and security for complex systems;
● Optimal fault-tolerant control and security for complex systems;
● Adaptive fault-tolerant control for complex systems;
● Quantitative fault-tolerant control for complex systems;
● Privacy-preserving security control complex systems;
● Fault-tolerant consensus control and secure control for multi-agent systems;
● Applications of game theory in safety and security control;
● Applications of artificial intelligence in safety and security control.
