Announcement of New Editors-in-Chief of WEC&N

Based on the expiry of Prof. Antonio Ginebreda’s appointment, the journal updates its new Editors-in-Chief in February 2024. Profs. Daoji Li from East China Normal University, China, and Joana C Prata from University Institute of Health Sciences - CESPU (IUCS-CESPU), Portugal, will take over from Prof. Antonio Ginebreda to lead the journal as the Editors-in-Chief.

Daoji Li, a Professor at the State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research and Director of the Institute of Plastic Cycle and Innovation (Plastic Marine Debris Research Center) at East China Normal University, brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise. He also serves as the Chairman of the Shanghai Society of Limnology and Oceanography, Director of UNESCO-IOC Regional Training and Research Center on Plastic Marine Debris and Microplastics, and holds memberships in various esteemed scientific committees including the Science and Technology Committee of China Ministry of Education, UNEP Scientific Advisory Committee on Marine Litter and Microplastics, UN GESAMP WG40 and WG38, and the Advisory Committee of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW). Prof. Li’s internationally recognized research in marine science focuses on the responses of estuarine and coastal ecosystems to human activities and climate change, earning him continuous recognition as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate since 2021.

Joana C. Prata is an integrated researcher in the Translational Toxicology Research Laboratory of UCIBIO, and an Invited Assistant Professor at the Instituto Universitário de Health Sciences - CESPU (IUCS-CESPU) and at the Abel Institute of Biomedical Sciences Salazar from the University of Porto (ICBAS-UP). She has an bachelors and master's degree in Veterinary Medicine (2016) by the University of Porto, being a member of the Portuguese Veterinarians Board, and holds a PhD in Biology and Ecology of Global Change with a specialization in Environmental Biology and Health (2021) from the University of Aveiro. She is internationally recognized for her research work and has been recognized in the list of the Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate since 2022. She has been invited to multiple panels as a project reviewer and policy advisor. Stanford University's World Top 2% Scientists for single year rankings in 2019 and 2020 attest to her significant contributions to academia since 2019. Her main research areas are One Health, Veterinary Science, Environmental Health, Contaminants, and Microplastics.

The Editorial Office extends its sincere gratitude to the former Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Antonio Ginebreda, for his invaluable contributions to WEC&N. In recognition of his significant role in the journal’s inception, he is honored with the title of "Founding Editor-in-Chief".

Under the leadership of Profs. Daoji Li and Joana C. Prata, WEC&N will continue to disseminate high-quality environmental science research on pollutants of emerging concern, fostering scientific progress and practice. OAE Publishing Inc. eagerly anticipates collaborating with the new Editors-in-Chief to fully support the future development of WEC&N.
