Seven Editorial Board Members of Water Emerging Contaminants & Nanoplastics Have Been Listed as the “Highly Cited Researchers 2022” by Clarivate Analytics
On November 15, 2022, Clarivate Analytics released the list of “Highly Cited Researchers 2022”. Hearteningly, seven Editorial Board members of Water Emerging Contaminants & Nanoplastics (WEC&N) were elected in the list.
Hereby, all Editors of WEC&N extend warm congratulations to these scholars.
Dr. Damià Barceló
Highly Cited Researcher in the field of Environment and Ecology – 2022

Dr. Damià Barceló is a Research Professor in the field of Environmental Chemistry with the goal of solving different environmental problems in the field of water quality. He was a Visiting Professor at King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from 2009-2015. He has been a Full Research Professor at the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Studies IDAEA-CSIC (Barcelona, Spain) since 1999, Director of the Catalan Institute of Water Research (ICRA) (Girona, Spain) since May 2008 and Full Professor Chair in Biology at College of Science under Distinguished Scientist Fellowship Programme (DSFP) at King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia since October 2016. His scientific focus is on the Fate and Risk of Emerging Pollutants such as Pharmaceuticals, Nanomaterials and Microplastics in the Environment, Multiple Stressors in Rivers, and Water Pollution Control and Protection under Scarcity. He has published over 1,600 original works, with an H-index of 137 and 87,999 ISI citations, and supervised 55 PhD theses.
Dr. Despo Fatta-Kassinos

Dr. Despo Fatta-Kassinos is a Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Director of Nireas-IWRC at the University of Cyprus (UCY). With a Chemical Engineering background and further studies in environmental management and education, her record includes more than 200 publications in refereed journals. She is a Highly Cited Researcher for 2018 - 2021 in recognition of the production of multiple highly cited papers that ranked in the top 1% of citations in their field (by Web of Science, Clarivate Analytics). She is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Strategic Partnership "Cross-Research in Environmental Technologies of the University of Santiago de Compostela (CRETUS)" of the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, Spain, and the Chair of the Advisory Board of the African Center of Excellence in Water and Environment Research (ACEWATER). She is also a member of the core group of the Global Panel on Chemical Pollution of the Environment (GPCPE).

Dr. Hafiz M.N. Iqbal is a Full-time Professor at the School of Engineering and Sciences, Tecnologico de Monterrey, Mexico. Dr. Ravi Naidu

Dr. Ravi Naidu is Australia’s foremost contamination and remediation scientist. He has achieved scientific breakthroughs on how contaminants interact with a broad variety of soils, their chemical bioavailability, and new methods for accurately speciating certain contaminants, assessing risk and remediating contaminated sites. His findings have opened up myriad new lines for future research and have had a profound impact on the practice of contamination management – both nationally and internationally. Dr. Naidu is viewed as a global leader in bringing together industry, government, and research to tackle the scourge of contamination and ensuring that future generations are protected. Following his appointment at the University of Newcastle, he established the Global Centre for Environmental Remediation (GCER). Along with this, Dr. Naidu is also the CEO and managing director of Cooperative Research Centre for Contamination Assessment and Remediation of the Environment (CRC CARE) which brings together major end-users and Australian Government supporting research on contaminants. CRC CARE is the only Australian Centre of Excellence Researching Contaminants.
Dr. Joana C Prata

Dr. Joana C. Prata conducts research on environmental challenges under One Health and sustainable approaches to mitigate them in the Circular Economy. Dr. Teresa Rocha-Santos is a Principal Researcher with habilitation at Department of Chemistry & Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM) from University of Aveiro. She focuses on the study of organic contaminants and microplastics fate and behaviour in the environment and during wastewater treatment, biodegradation of microplastics, and development of novel methods for environmental, food and health care applications.
Dr. Ajit Sarmah

Dr. Ajit Sarmah is an Associate Professor in the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department within the Environmental Engineering Group. Prior to joining The University of Auckland, he was a Senior Research Scientist with Landcare Research, a Crown Research Institute (CRI) in Hamilton, NZ for nearly 10 years. Earlier he worked in the School of Civil Engineering and School of Agronomy of Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, USA, as a Visiting Scientist, as a Research Officer at the University of Western Australia, and as a Research Associate at the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand. He currently leads multi-disciplinary research projects in a number of topical and environmentally significant areas.
