2024 Annual Report of Metabolism and Target Organ Damage

In 2024, Metabolism and Target Organ Damage (M&TOD) has witnessed a remarkable year of growth and success. This success would not have been possible without the invaluable support of our Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Amedeo Lonardo; Honorary Editors, Prof. Christopher D. Byrne and Prof. Giovanni Targher, and all members of the Editorial Board. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all Editorial Board members, authors, readers, and reviewers, whose dedication and hard work have been pivotal in driving the journal's progress.

The Editorial Office is proud to present the journal's key achievements in 2024, which include:

Highlights:

  • Submissions and Publications: Received 144 submissions in 2024, an impressive 128.6% increase from 2023 (63 submissions); published 49 papers, a 113.0% increase over the previous year (23 publications).
  • Special Issues: Launched 15 Special Issues led by experts from various countries.
  • Citations: Articles were cited 169 times in 2024, representing a remarkable 77.9% rise from 2023 (95 citations).
  • Editorial Board: Welcomed 34 new Editorial Board members and 44 new Young Editorial Board members in 2024, expanding the Editorial Board to 72 members from 16 countries/regions, with 90% having an H-index greater than 30.
  • Webinars: Hosted 2 webinars, attracting nearly 40,000 online viewers.
  • Interviews: Conducted face-to-face interviews with 12 distinguished experts.
  • Editorial Meetings: Held 3 online Editorial Board meetings.
  • Databases: Achieved a CiteScore of 3.0, indexed in ESCI, and will receive its first Impact Factor in June 2025.

In 2024, M&TOD received 144 submissions, with 49 papers already published (Figure 2). Both submissions and publications have increased year by year.

The range of article types has broadened, with review articles accounting for 52% and original research articles comprising 14%.

As of 2024, M&TOD has 433 authors from 28 countries/regions, with Italy, the United States, and China leading the list.

2.Special Issues

In 2024, we launched 15 Special Issues, featuring 33 distinguished Guest Editors. These Special Issues cover a wide range of topics, and we welcome all researchers to contribute to areas aligned with their research interests.

We are pleased to have welcomed 34 new members to our Editorial Board in 2024, expanding our team to 72 members from 16 countries/regions, with the majority from Italy, USA, and China.

Among the 72 Editorial Board members, 90% have an H-index greater than 30, and 40% exceed an H-index of 50. These figures underscore the strength and expertise of our editorial team.

In 2024, we held three Editorial Board meetings, where Prof. Amedeo Lonardo and board members discussed the journal's future directions, and received constructive feedback to guide the future development of M&TOD.

8.Databases

M&TOD achieved a CiteScore of 3.0 in 2024 and was successfully indexed in ESCI, and is on track to receive its first Impact Factor in June 2025.

2024 has been a bumper year for M&TOD, marked by substantial growth in submissions, publications, and citations. Our expanded Editorial Board, the success of webinars and interviews, and the launch of numerous Special Issues demonstrate the continued commitment to advancing research in metabolism and target organ damage. We sincerely thank all contributors and look forward to further progress in 2025.
