The 3rd Editorial Board Meeting of JCA: Heading to Fast, Fair and Friendly Publishing
Seventeen Editorial Board members of The Journal of Cardiovascular Aging (JCA) worldwide participated in the one-hour online meeting, the Third Editorial Board Meeting of JCA, on 19 April 2022.
Professor Ali J. Marian, Editor-in-Chief of JCA, hosted the meeting. In his opening speech, he thanked all the authors and Editorial Board members who contributed during the journal's first year and highlighted targets to better develop the journal. The meeting began with the status and statistics of the published papers introduced by Professor Marian.
"We need to be distinct from the others", said Professor Marian. To stand out from 30,000+ existing medical journals, Professor Marian emphasized that the quality of published papers and high efficiency of manuscript processing should be one of the strengths JCA strives for. In particular, handling Editors and reviewers were expected to do better jobs.
Professor Marian stated that the Editors should bear in mind that JCA aims to provide a fast, fair, and friendly platform to disseminate scientific outcomes. As to reviewers, Professor Marian proposed to establish a reviewer database specific to JCA, which is to ensure that comprehensive and constructive comments can be received and streamline the reviewing process. Accordingly, a guidance to better review reports will be made available for JCA reviewers.
The work of JCA Editorial Office was praised by Professor Marian and shared to all Editorial Board members. Based on the feedback, we optimized the manuscript submission system to make it more intuitive for users; we also upgraded our email service to secure effective communications with authors and reviewers. JCA Editorial Office reported short- and long-term work plans and noted down the assistance needed from the Editorial Board members.
The ongoing issues of JCA were also clarified to all Editorial Board members. The members discussed the scope of journal topics as well as how to increase the visibility of this new journal. They mentioned that when inviting an article, the authors should be informed that JCA covers a broad range of topics concerning cardiovascular and aging as in Editors' Preamble. Finally, they suggested that JCA could participate in more international conferences to increase its global impact.
The third Editorial Board Meeting of JCA was held successfully with fruitful discussions carried out. The Editorial Office of JCA is grateful to all the attendees. We will continue to do our best to assist every Editorial Board member and achieve the goals for JCA!
