Annalisa Berzigotti graduated in Medicine in Bologna, Italy, where she also obtained the title of specialist in Internal Medicine and a Doctorate in ultrasound in medicine. She focused on liver disease early in her career, and expanded her knowledge in this field at the Liver Unit of the Hospital Clinic, University of Barcelona, Spain, where she obtained an academic Doctorate in hepatology. In December 2014 she joined the hepatology group of the University Clinic of Visceral Surgery and Medicine, Inselspital, University Hospital of Berne, Switzerland. Since 2016 she is Associate Professor of Hepatology at the University of Berne, and since February 2021 she is leading the liver unit of the university hospital in Berne. Annalisa Berzigotti has been member of the Governing Board of the European Association for the Study of the Liver in 2016-2019. She is currently serving as Associate Editor of the Journal of Hepatology. She is author/co-author of 180 peer-reviewed articles.
