Dr. Rui Hou is an Associate Professor at South China Sea Institute of Oceanology (SCSIO), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), China. He received his PhD at Research Center for Eco-environmental sciences with Prof. Zijian Wang and conducted postdoctoral research at Guangdong University of Technology. Dr. Hou’s current research interests involve the bioaccumulation and biomagnifications, the biotic and abiotic degradation mechanisms, and environmental risks assessments of emerging organic pollutants. He has developed a combined toxicokinetic fish models for flame retardants and their metabolites to characterize how metabolism impact the bioaccumulation of pollutants in fish. He also investigated the environmental behaviors and microbial degradation mechanisms of several novel pollutants (i.e., novel bisphenol compounds, organophosphorus flame retardants and novel brominated flame retardants) in aquatic environments. He has authored more than 30 articles in peer-reviewed journals, such as Environmental Science & Technology, Water Research, iScience, etc. He also served as the early-career editor for the journals of Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology and Heliyon.
