During the interview, Dr. Miroslav L. Djordjevic provided an in-depth overview of his research areas, including urogenital reconstructive surgery and gender affirmation, as well as the recent research directions of his team. He highlighted key aspects of his two recently published articles, discussed the challenges and breakthroughs in his surgical practice, and offered valuable advice to young scholars.

The recording of this interview can be found below:

1. In 2024, you published an article entitled “Management of vaginoplasty canal complications’’ in Current Opinion in Urology. Could you explain how the incidence rates and management strategies for intraoperative and delayed postoperative complications in vaginoplasty vary across different surgical techniques, and what evidence-based practices can be standardized to optimize patient outcomes and reduce complication rates?

2. We noticed your excellent review in 2022, “Epispadias: Recent Techniques” published in Plastic and Aesthetic Research (PAR). This article explores surgical techniques for treating epispadias, a congenital penile condition, in both pediatric and adult patients. The study retrospectively analyzed 33 patients, with 18 undergoing primary repair using a one-stage penile disassembly technique and 15 undergoing redo surgeries in two stages. What surgical techniques were used for primary repair and redo surgeries in the study, and how were the outcomes of these two repair procedures?

3. Could you share the latest developments in your latest research on gender affirmation?

4. In 2023, you successfully transplanted an ovary, making Serbia the second country in the world to achieve this c. How do you think the success of this surgery will influence your future research?

5. What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your surgical career? Is there any particularly memorable incident that stands out?

6. As an expert in urethral surgery and genital reconstruction, and as the founder and leader of the Belgrade Center for Genital Reconstructive Surgery, what do you believe are the keys to your success? What experiences can you share with young scholars?
