Prof. Tong-Xiang Fan is a distinguished Professor, director of institute of composites materials of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
He obtained his doctor degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China in 1999. From 1998 to 2001, he worked in Osaka University as a visiting scholar and Japan Science and Technology Agency as STA Fellowship award winner, respectively. After returning to School of Materials Science and Engineering, Shanghai Jiaotong University, he became an associate professor in 2001 and a full professor from 2006 to now. He has received Excellent Young Teachers Program Award of Ministry of Education, China in 2002, Fok Ying Tung Foundation Award, Hongkong in 2003, Program Award for New Century Excellent Talents in University of Ministry of Education, China in 2004, Shanghai Rising-Star Program Award, Shanghai in 2005, Dawn Scholar Award, Shanghai in 2008, Distinguished Young Scholars Award of NSFC, China in 2014, Leading scientists, engineers and innovators( National Ten Thousands Plan), China in 2017, National Millions of Leading Engineering Talents by Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, China in 2017, the First Class Prize in Natural Science , Shanghai in 2007 and 2014, the second class National Natural Science Awards by the State Council, China in 2015 and 2020.
He has published more than150 SCI papers in Prog. Mater. Sci., PNAS, Adv. Mater., Energy Environ. Sci., Adv. Funct. Mater., ACS Nano, etc. with more than 7000 citations and an H index of 40 and also is a coordinator and a principal leader of more than 30 research and collaborative projects.
Prof. Fan’s current research fields include the synthesis, the property study of biomimetic and bio-inspired materials for micro/nano photonics, energy transfer, conversion and storage; smart meta-materials for thermal control coating.
