Dr. Aicheng Chen is a Professor of Chemistry, Director of the Electrochemical Technology Centre at the University of Guelph, and Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Electrochemistry and Nanoscience.

He received his MSc from Xiamen University under the supervision of Professor Shi-Gang Sun and his PhD from the University of Guelph in 1998 under the direction of Professor Jacek Lipkowski. Subsequently, he spent four years working as a Research Scientist and Electrochemical Specialist in the chemical industry. In 2002, he joined Lakehead University as an Assistant Professor, where he was tenured and promoted to Associate Professor in 2005, a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in 2006, and to Full Professor in 2010. Dr. Chen relocated from Lakehead University to the University of Guelph in 2017.

His research interests span the areas of Electrochemistry, Photoelectrochemistry, Green Chemistry, and Nanoscience. He has published over 260 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters and delivered over 130 invited/keynote/plenary lectures. Dr. Chen has served the Electrochemical Society (ECS) Canadian Section since 2003 and was Chair in 2009. He also served the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE) as the Canada Regional Representative (2010-2012) and the Chair of the 15th ISE Topical Meeting held in Niagara Falls in 2014. In addition, Professor Chen is an editorial board member of ECS Sensors Plus, Appl. Sci., J. Electrochem., and Sensors, as well as Associate Editor of the Canadian Journal of Chemistry and Editor of Electrochimic Acta. For his accomplishments, Professor Chen has been awarded the Ontario Premier’s Research Excellence Award, the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellowship, the Lash Miller Award and the R.C. Jacobsen Award of the ECS Canada Section, the Fred Beamish Award, the Keith Laidler Award and the W.A.E. McBryde Medal of the Canadian Society for Chemistry, the Canadian Catalysis Lectureship Award, and the RBC Innovation Award. He has also been named as Fellow of the Chemical Institute of Canada, Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK), Fellow of the International Association of Advanced Materials, and Fellow of the International Society of Electrochemistry.
