Special Issue
Topic: Cardiovascular Risk in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus
Guest Editor(s)
Special Issue Introduction
Diabetes mellitus dramatically increases the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), which is one of the main drivers of morbidity and mortality globally. The intricate interplay between diabetes and cardiovascular health is governed by multiple pathophysiological mechanisms, including insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, and accelerated atherosclerosis. Recent breakthroughs in research and clinical practice have deepened our understanding of these mechanisms, as well as the impact of novel therapeutic strategies on cardiovascular outcomes in patients with diabetes.
This Special Issue, "Cardiovascular Risk in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus," aims to highlight cutting-edge research, innovative diagnostic tools, and evolving treatment paradigms addressing this critical nexus. Topics covered will include the latest insights into risk stratification, biomarker discovery, molecular mechanisms of CVD in diabetes, and the efficacy of emerging pharmacological interventions such as SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP-1 receptor agonists. By uniting experts in cardiology, endocrinology, and translational medicine, this issue seeks to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and identify new opportunities to mitigate cardiovascular risk and improve patient care.
