Special Issue Introduction

Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition that significantly affects millions of children worldwide, leading to considerable health burdens and impacts on quality of life. While genetic predispositions play a crucial role, emerging research highlights the importance of epigenetic modifications in the development and progression of asthma. This Special Issue, "Epigenetic Characteristics of Asthma in Children", aims to delve into the intricate epigenetic mechanisms that influence asthma in pediatric populations.

This issue brings together cutting-edge research and reviews from leading scientists and clinicians in the field, exploring various aspects such as:

● DNA Methylation Patterns: Investigating how changes in DNA methylation affect gene expression and contribute to asthma susceptibility and severity in children;

● Histone Modifications: Examining the role of histone modifications in regulating inflammatory responses and airway remodeling in pediatric asthma;

● Non-Coding RNAs: Highlighting the impact of microRNAs and other non-coding RNAs in the epigenetic regulation of genes associated with asthma;

● Environmental Epigenetics: Assessing how environmental factors, such as allergens, pollutants, and diet, induce epigenetic changes that influence the onset and exacerbation of asthma;

● Transgenerational Epigenetic Inheritance: Exploring how epigenetic marks related to asthma can be transmitted across generations, affecting the health of offspring.

By providing a comprehensive understanding of these epigenetic factors, this Special Issue aims to pave the way for novel therapeutic strategies and preventive measures tailored to the unique needs of children with asthma. We invite researchers, clinicians, and healthcare professionals to engage with this collection of insightful articles to enhance the current knowledge and improve clinical outcomes for young asthma patients.
