Special Issue Introduction

The digital landscape is constantly evolving, generating ever-increasing volumes of data. This data deluge presents both challenges and opportunities for digital investigations, analytics, and security. Effectively managing and analyzing this data is crucial for uncovering hidden patterns, identifying threats, and conducting thorough investigations. However, traditional methods are often overwhelmed by the sheer scale and complexity of digital data. Consequently, integrating data-driven systems in these fields necessitates the exploration of innovative methodologies, technologies, and applications. This Special Issue aims to bring together cutting-edge research and advancements that address the complexities and potentials of data-driven systems in enhancing digital investigations, analytics, and security measures.

We invite high-quality submissions that present original research, case studies, and review articles related to developing, implementing, and evaluating data-driven techniques and tools in these domains. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Data-driven forensics: Techniques and tools for acquiring, preserving, analyzing, and interpreting digital evidence using data analytics methods. Advanced forensic techniques and tools. Data mining and machine learning for digital forensics;
Cybersecurity analytics: Machine learning, artificial intelligence, and other advanced analytics techniques for threat detection, incident response, and risk management. Case studies on digital investigation methodologies;
Big data for digital investigations: Methods and frameworks for processing, storing, and analyzing large datasets in the context of digital investigations. Big data analytics in cybercrime investigations;
Network traffic analysis: Leveraging network data for anomaly detection, intrusion prevention, and attribution of cyberattacks;
Social media analytics for investigations: Utilizing social media data to identify suspects, track criminal activity, and gather intelligence;
Data visualization for security: Techniques for presenting complex security data in a clear and actionable way;
Privacy-preserving data analytics: Methods for analyzing digital data while ensuring data privacy and compliance with regulations;
Emerging applications of data-driven approaches: Novel applications of data analytics in digital investigations, analytics, and security.
