Special Issue Introduction
The increasing demand to reduce the environmental impact of industrial processes has led to a specific need for the designing tools that optimize of processes to ensure sustainability. This Special Issue aims to present innovative operations research methods and tools capable of meeting these needs. The development and application of advanced operations research techniques will enable companies to make informed decisions that prioritize environmental considerations while maintaining or improving their operational performance. By focusing on optimization, particularly in the area of manufacturing planning and scheduling, the goal is to minimize production waste and effectively manage material resources and energy consumption.
The aim of this special issue is to present cutting-edge mathematical models and algorithms that can efficiently solve practical planning and scheduling problems within the context of sustainable manufacturing and logistics processes. Authors are encouraged to submit their recent high-quality research in this area, particularly related to optimization problems dedicated to the reduction of environmental aspects in connection with manufacturing and logistics. Submissions addressing theoretical as well as practical issues are welcome, with the ultimate aim of providing valuable insights and solutions to real-world challenges in sustainable industrial processes.
