Special Issue Introduction
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) play pivotal roles in intercellular communication and disease pathogenesis, with growing recognition of their impact on lung diseases. EVs contribute to immune responses, inflammation, fibrosis, and cancer progression, while their unique molecular cargo reflects the state of their cell of origin. This positions EVs as promising biomarkers for early diagnosis, disease monitoring, and therapeutic response prediction. Moreover, their potential as therapeutic agents or drug delivery vehicles highlights innovative avenues for treatment.
This Special Issue aims to showcase cutting-edge research on EVs in lung diseases, focusing on their pathogenic mechanisms, biomarker potential, and therapeutic applications. We welcome contributions exploring mechanistic insights, biomarker discovery, and therapeutic applications of EVs, as well as technological advancements in EV isolation, characterization, and in vivo tracking. Studies on EV biodistribution and their role in diseases like COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, and infectious diseases are also encouraged.
The Special Issue will accept original research articles presenting novel data, comprehensive reviews, mini reviews, brief communications of high-impact findings, and perspective articles proposing conceptual frameworks or future research directions. This initiative seeks to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and advance understanding of EVs in lung disease pathophysiology.
