Special Issue Introduction
The "Gruppo Italiano Staminali Mesenchimali (GISM)" is an organization comprising researchers from leading Italian universities and research associations. Its main purpose is to promote the exchange of knowledge and advancements in the field of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), with a particular emphasis on their clinical applications. On May 8-9, 2025, the GISM annual meeting will take place in Perugia (Italy) (https://www.gismonline.it/images/GISM2025/GISM2025_v20241003.pdf). Spanning two days, the meeting will feature a comprehensive program that includes sessions of interest to researchers involved in the production, application, and study of MSCs across clinical, veterinary, and broader research fields. A dedicated section will explore EVs and their application, from bench to bedside.
This EVCNA Special Issue intends to provide an up-to-date overview of advances in extracellular vesicle research, highlighting contributions from participants delivering oral presentations or posters at the GISM meeting. This collection will comprise full papers, review articles, and short communications covering the following EV topics:
- Molecular mechanisms of EV biogenesis and release;
- Roles of EVs in cell-cell communication and signaling pathways;
- Diagnostic and therapeutic potential of EVs;
- Advances in EV isolation and characterization techniques;
- Emerging clinical applications of EVs in various diseases.
The Special Issue will feature:
Conference Abstracts: Summaries of research presented during the GISM 2025 meeting.
Meeting Reports: Highlights and key takeaways from conference sessions and discussions, providing an overarching view of the event.
