Special Issue Introduction
Global warming and disruptions caused by natural disasters have become increasingly prevalent, gaining worldwide attention in recent decades. These events can potentially cause significant societal impact, with floods emerging as a major concern due to their destructive consequences, including fatalities, the spread of disease vectors, property damage, and disruptions to essential services. In this sense, mitigating flood risk has been a prominent global concern, especially in light of ongoing climate change and its impact on extreme weather events. Managing and preventing flood-related disasters present significant challenges for policymakers, technical professionals, organizations, and civil society. Effective flood risk management entails the use of comprehensive tools to analyze the impacts of these events, highlighting system limitations and anticipating future challenges.
